For those that missed my post yesterday (or Because I know I have more than 29 friends on LJ) [Feb. 2nd, 2009|10:46 am]
I've been pretty lax about posting here for a long time now. That's due, in part, to me using magicinkwell.com as my place to blog and post comics again. I still use LJ to keep up with those on my friend's list, but I wanted to get all my friends to add the magicinkwell feed to their list in place of my regular LJ. This is where I'm posting these days...

thanks, guys!

I'm not really posting here like I used to as many of my LJ friend may have notice. If you see this post, please add the magic inkwell feed (link below) to your friends list. I've been posting my blog (as well as my comics, music, art, etc.) over there for a while now. Please feel free to add the feed. I'm not quitting LJ by any means, I read my friend's list all the time. It's one of my favorite things to do. It just occurred to me that most of the folks on my friend's list aren't getting any of my posts...

so please friend this feed folks ======> [info]magic_inkwell

You are 86% REAL Texan!!

High five, you're a complete Texan. People from other states should tremble in your presence because they're simply not worthy. Let them bow before you and convey their undying adoration to you while they announce their true desire to be Texan.

How Texan Are You?

pros and cons [Jun. 5th, 2008|09:03 am]
[Current Mood | cranky]

The downside:

  • my website has been down for many days thanks to a crazy electrical explosion... web go blooey
  • just moved into a new place and still settling in... surrounded by boxes and trying desperately to get organized
  • no place to stay in NYC this weekend... anyone got a couch?!
  • massive boxes to take to the city for MoCCA...
  • massive printing bill to pay
  • lack of email/internets has slowed down the pre-orders for Secrets & Lies to a complete halt. not good.

The upside:

  • i did it!! (Secrets & Lies is done! It's in huge boxes in my living room! whoo!!)
  • i've got swell neighbors
  • my new apartment is the straight dopeness
  • i'm going to NYC for the weekend and my first MoCCA Festival!! WHOO!!!
  • my wife is a sweetheart! She's been organizing the house every day while i'm at work!
  • my kid is fantastic! she's a little sweetheart!
  • i'm going to survive!

seriously, though... anyone out there got a couch i can borrow in NYC this weekend during the festival?

Whew! Above is a sample of the cover I came up with after three nights of no sleep and a dozen different cover designs and attempts. It may not look like anything special, but it's what's between the covers that really counts after all, right?

The book went to press today after a few hiccups and bumps around noontime.

The paper order came in yesterday here at work and what a haul it was! Twelve cases of 70# Accent Opaque Text (for interiors) and a case of 80# Hammermill Color Copy Cover (for the covers). I raised the print run to 500 copies, which may be small potatoes to some publishers out there, but for me this is an unfathomable amount of paper/books. I'm wondering how I'm going to haul all of it down to New York in two weeks!

I totally skipped out on sleep last night to finish up edits, scanning and placing comics into the final layout. I'm running on pure adrenaline right now as I type a bit here then step into the next room to make sure the print run is going smoothly. If all goes as planned we should have printing done by sometime Monday morning/afternoon and then we'll be taking the books to Marus Printing in Hartland, Vermont to get bound next week. The books should be back from the bindery just in time for Saturday night's book release party at the Main Street Museum in White River Junction.

If you've emailed me or tried to get a hold of me in the past few days and haven't heard from me it's probably because I've been busy putting this book together and getting to press on time. Things will slow down (sort of) in the next week (except for the whole moving into a new place thing next weekend after the book release party) or two then they'll get hectic again as I venture down to NYC for the festival.

I'll be posting info on how to order a copy online in the next few days as well as posting again over at the blog for the next couple weeks before the festival.

More soon, stay tuned!

REMIX! and other stuff... [May. 6th, 2008|09:26 am]
Well, for some reason [info]magic_inkwell doesn't post the flash player I usually incorporate on my musical blog posts over at the website, so I'm posting this here for your listening pleasure/consideration:

I just finished my new Humpasaur Jones remix for his song "Best Show Ever" under the moniker "Lolcat da Wzzrd".

***Not work safe or for younger listeners!!!***

You've been warned...

Best Show Ever (Evah Evah Remix) - Lolcat da Wzzrd vs. Hump Jones

Thanks to everyone that let me know they're out there reading the comic. I totally lost steam last week and missed my update after all that. Brilliant. The new strip posted yesterday, though, and I'm hoping I'm back on track with the schedule. Things are going to be a bit crazy for the next couple weeks while I wrap up my three anthology comics and production for my own anthology Secrets and Lies. The line up is shaping up nicely and we're having a massive book release party on May 31st here at the Main Street Museum in White River Junction. CCS graduation is next week and I'm playing music for a couple of those events! Busy times.

kochalka quality [Dec. 9th, 2007|10:46 pm]
[Current Mood | hungry]
[Current Music |Gerber GS-15 cutting away at werk]

in case you hadn't heard, james kochalka's opened up the archives over at american elf. now you can see my very first appearance as a comic character! (i'm the guy with the three eyes in the last panel)

of course, my favorite kochalka drawing of me is still this one he did for the "cat garza hiatus blues jam". although someone once pointed out he made me look a little like wayne coyne of the flaming lips.

oh, if you'd like to read the rest of the "cat garza hiatus blues jam", you can check it out here. the comic was put together by joe zabel when i was supposed to be quiting comics and take a hiatus back in 2002. back then i was all like, "comics, i wish i could quit you." and comics was all like "nuh uh!"

some stuff [Dec. 5th, 2007|01:05 am]
so i've been meaning to blog about this for the past couple weeks but i've been too busy lately to take a minute to do it:

the infamous william g is wrapping up his series on graphicsmash BANG BARSTAL this week and dingbat makes a cameo in the final couple pages (scroll down a bit to the last few installments).  check it out!  you'll also notice a few other characters from the world of webcomics making a cameo.

i'm flattered and honored to have one of my characters in such fine company.  :)

in other news the holiday season is upon us and things are going full tilt at anything printed, so i'm pretty busy these days at work and have little energy when i get home to do anything else or go anywhere.  we're also gearing up for our trip down to south texas to visit my family for the christmas holiday.  we've had a big snowfall here and vermont is now a winter wonderland!  whoo!
